Riverside Car Accident Kills Woman | Personal Injury Attorney News

A 38-year-old woman who was struck and killed in a car accident in Riverside has been identified as Shengying Chen, the North County Times reports. The accident happened the night of October 30, 2009, as Chen was traveling on the southbound 215 Freeway in Menifee, California and her 1996 Toyota Corolla hit the center divider. Chen then got out of her car. Traffic on the southbound lanes slowed following Chen's crash. A Hyundai Tiburon driven by a 17-year-old driver had swerved his vehicle to avoid the cars ahead and ended up hitting the center divider and the pedestrian, Chen. Two other vehicles also crashed into the victim. The victim died from her injuries shortly after the pedestrian-car accident. I offer my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Shengying Chen for their devastating loss. This is truly a terrible and unfortunate accident that has taken the life of someone who just happened to be in the wrong place. My sincere condolences and prayers go out to everyone who knew and loved this woman.

Complicated Multi-Car Accident

It seems to me, if this news account is accurate, the driver of the Tiburon initiated the sequence of crashes that caused the fatal injuries to the pedestrian on the freeway. I hope investigators are looking into whether this young driver was negligent in any way, distracted, impaired or going too fast given the traffic conditions at the time. If it is determined that the Hyundai driver was at-fault then, he or she must be held fully accountable. The Chen family has suffered a tremendous blow by the death of their loved one and they deserve to know what happened here that caused this fatality. Another issue that needs to be examined is whether there was an unsafe condition here on the freeway at the location of this crash. Why did the Toyota hit the center divider in the first place?
